Akio

Tour Guide

Biography

Akio is a licensed national guide based in Fukuoka who enjoys sharing the art, architecture, and history of his city with people from around the world. He studied architecture in Kumamoto and spent the early 1990s living and working in New York, and he has since built a long career in contemporary art, helping international artists install their work in museums across Kyushu. Known locally as the “Fukuoka Art Ninja,” he is curious, easygoing, and always ready to adjust the plan when something catches your eye. With his own walking tour of Hakata’s old temples and public art, he offers tours that are both informative and full of stories you won’t find in a guidebook. He can’t wait to explore Fukuoka together with you and uncover the hidden gems behind its familiar streets.
