Start your day with an invigorating, short hike up Mt. Tateishi. Standing at 210 meters (689 feet) tall, this accessible mountain leads to a rewarding, panoramic view of the entire Itoshima coastline, lush green fields, and surrounding islands. It’s the ultimate photo spot to capture the vast, dynamic beauty of the area.
Embark on a short boat ride to witness the magnificent Keya no Oto, one of Japan’s largest basalt caves. Formed by dynamic waves and volcanic activity, the cave’s hexagonally shaped rock columns offer a dramatic, awe-inspiring display of natural artistry from the sea.
Savor the flavors of Itoshima’s land and sea at a carefully selected local restaurant. From fresh seafood straight from the fishing port to locally grown organic vegetables, your guide will recommend a spot that perfectly matches your taste and dietary needs. Please note that between October and early spring, seasonal Oyster Huts (Kaki-Goya) are open, offering a highly recommended local barbecue experience. Lunch cost is not included in the tour price. Budget approximately JPY 1,500 to JPY 3,000 per person.
Visit the historic Sakurai Shrine, which holds deep local significance as a spiritual site connected to the ruling family of the area. Its serene atmosphere and beautiful architecture provide a quiet moment of reflection on the region’s history.
Witness the breathtaking coastal scenery of Futamigaura, known for its iconic white torii gate and the “Couple Rocks” (Meoto Iwa) standing proudly in the ocean. This designated scenic spot offers one of Japan’s most beautiful sunset views, celebrated for its unique blend of natural beauty and spiritual symbolism.
Your tour concludes at JR Imajuku Station, which has a direct train line to Tenjin/Hakata Area.
Keita was a consummate host for our Kyushu Immersion tour. His deep knowledge of Itoshima provided us with a wonderful experience of the sights and tastes of this beautiful seaside region of Fukuoka. From a mountain viewpoint, to a boat cruise off the shore, we were introduced to many surprising scenes. A highlight of our tour was grilling shellfish and eating tasty seafood in an oyster hut. Trust Kyushu Immersion to provide a custom tour which delivers!
