We’ll meet you at your hotel lobby or chosen pickup point in Sasebo. After a friendly hello, we’ll set off together in a comfortable private vehicle, just for your group. *Hotel pickup is available.
Our first stop is Tenkaiho, one of Kyushu’s most breathtaking viewpoints. From this cliff-top deck, the whole Kujukushima archipelago opens up beneath you — a scatter of some 208 forested islands drifting across a calm blue sea. On clear days, the view stretches to the horizon. A grand, unforgettable way to begin the day, and a moment to feel the scale of the coast we’re about to explore.
We drive down to Kujukushima Pearl Sea Resort, the main gateway to the islands, and board the Pearl Queen — a graceful sightseeing ship designed after a 19th-century tall ship. For about 50 minutes, we glide through the calm blue waters of the archipelago, weaving in and out among some of its 208 forested islands. Your guide shares the story of Kujukushima — a designated national park and one of Japan’s most beautiful island seascapes — as pine-covered isles drift past on either side. A serene, unforgettable way to see the coast from water level.
Back in the heart of downtown, we step into the 403 Arcade — the long covered shopping street that has been the everyday pulse of Sasebo life for generations. Your guide points out longtime local shops and hidden alleys as we wander deeper into the city. Along the way, we settle in at a well-loved local restaurant for a relaxed lunch — a chance to slow down and taste Sasebo the way locals do.
Just off the arcade, we duck into one of Sasebo’s most curious hidden gems: the Tunnel Market. Built inside a former shelter tunnel from the Cold War era, this narrow passage is now lined with tiny shops, dried-fish sellers, and old-town flavor found nowhere else in Japan. A quietly atmospheric detour, and a glimpse of a Sasebo few visitors ever see.
