Your personal guide will meet you at your hotel lobby or designated pickup point in Beppu. After a friendly introduction, we’ll begin our adventure in a comfortable, private vehicle. *Hotel-pickup is available.
Visit Japan’s oldest natural “hell,” famous for its striking, vermilion-red water. The dramatic color and rising steam create a powerful, almost otherworldly scene that is a dream for photographers.
We’ll drive up to a scenic viewpoint for a breathtaking panoramic look over the entire city. Watching the steam (or “yukemuri”) rise from countless vents truly captures the essence of Beppu, Japan’s hot spring capital.
Immerse yourself in the charming atmosphere of the Kannawa district. This historic area is famous for its narrow streets constantly veiled in steam.
We’ll take a relaxing break for lunch. Whether you’re craving Beppu’s famous Reimen (cold noodles), fresh local seafood, or a traditional set meal, I can recommend the best local spots to suit your taste. It’s a great chance to refuel and chat about the morning’s adventures. (Please note: The cost of the meal is not included in the tour price.)
Beppu’s most beautiful and iconic “hells.” You’ll be mesmerized by the stunning, cobalt-blue hot spring, surrounded by lush gardens. We’ll share the legends and unique geology that make this place so special.
Conclude your hells tour at Oniishi Bozu Jigoku. Here, watch as grey, boiling mud bubbles rhythmically erupt from the earth, resembling the shaved heads of Buddhist monks.
Your tour concludes as we drop you off at your hotel or another preferred location in Beppu.

Kei was our guide. He took us to some Jigoku around Beppu. Lunch at Jigokumushi Kobo Kannawa was lovely. Thank you Kei, for the best time in Beppu.
My family had the “Beppu private city tour with transport”. Kyushu Immersion group gave such an incredible service! This tour only manages 5 per group as the guide will use their own vehicle. Thankfully Kei was able to arrange for my family’s sixth member to join with just a some adjustments. The team was easily contactable, answering all queries immediately. This tour is hassle free and peaceful! We had a lovely day outing at Beppu with our guide Jun-san! He’s such a professional, calm and patient guide. We had mobility issues in my family but all was sorted out with Jun-san adjusting the pace of the tour. His English is excellent and he took care of all of us! No jostling with other strangers and tours! We had such a GREAT time. The tour is worth it for the hassle free and peace of mind it provides!
We had been traveling around Japan for more than 3 weeks and the week before we arrived in Beppu had been filled with busy, crowded places due to cherry bloosom season. Beppu was a great change of pace.
Unfortunately, my husband was a bit “under the weather” with a cold, so I was solo on my tour with Kei.
He shared his interest and love of Beppu with me, showing me 3 colorful, interesting hells, some great views over Beppu, walking me through a local area pointing out how the hot spring water is used locally, stopping to enjoy a steamed pork bun, and later a delicious lunch. After lunch we visited the Japanese macaques at the monkey park. Kei was a friendly, caring and professional. Conversation flowed easily, and it was a relaxing change of pace for me after so many hectic days.
This was an exceptional tour. Our guide, Kei contacted us the day prior to determine our interests and food preferences. He planned the perfect tour, showing us his local gems. There were breathtaking views, excellent street food and the perfect local steamed baskets of food for lunch. An early start allowed us to purchase tickets for Beppu’s Hells and the Geyser and keep ahead of crowds. We thoroughly enjoyed the walk through Kannawa’s back streets and took on local knowledge. Kei was courteous and his car very comfortable. Highly recommended, don’t miss this local experience.
Wonderful trip with our guide Jun! He lives locally and had lots of information to share at our pace! We were able to see the monkey park and several of the hells. We went to a wonderful lunch at a restaurant in an old remodeled Japanese style building. It was a wonderful day!
