Tour Details

Discover the highlights of Hita with a friendly local guide — from the historic Mameda-machi district to the dramatic scenery of Oyama Dam, deep in the green heart of rural Oita.

Join our intimate, small-group tour and uncover the hidden treasures of Hita, a riverside town often called the “Little Kyoto” of Oita, tucked deep in the green mountains of inland Kyushu. This is the opposite of a big bus tour — a relaxed, shared journey for just a handful of travelers, where we move at a human pace and have time to truly take each place in.

Together we’ll experience the full range of Hita’s charms: the white rush of a powerful waterfall, the awe-inspiring scale of Oyama Dam, and a beautifully preserved Edo-period merchant town lined with old sake breweries and craft shops.

*This is a small-group tour (maximum 6 travelers), so you’ll explore in good company while still enjoying the warmth and attention of a personal local guide.

  • Explore Hita in an intimate small group — never a crowded bus tour.
  • Witness the white rush of powerful Sakura Falls, a local natural wonder.
  • Stand before Oyama Dam with its majestic view.
  • Wander Mameda-machi, a preserved Edo-period merchant town with old sake breweries.
  • Travel comfortably and stress-free in a guide-driven vehicle.
  • Uncover local secrets and hidden stories with your friendly local guide.

Itinerary

9:30 AMJR Hita Station

We’ll meet at our designated pickup point in the Hita area. After a warm welcome and friendly introductions, we’ll set off on our shared adventure together.

10:00 AMSakura Falls

Our first stop is the magnificent Sakura Falls — named not for cherry trees, but for a powerful cascade that scatters like falling white blossoms. It’s a beautiful, refreshing start to the day, and a lovely introduction to Hita’s lush natural scenery.

11:00 AMMizube no Sato Oyama

Next we’ll visit a charming local roadside station, with something for everyone in the group.

For Attack on Titan fans: this is your chance to explore the official Attack on Titan in Hita Museum and step into the world of Hajime Isayama’s masterpiece. (A small entrance fee applies.)

For everyone else: browse the Mizube no Sato market for fresh local produce, regional snacks, and one-of-a-kind souvenirs — a relaxed window into everyday Hita life.

12:00 PMLunch stop at a local restaurant

After our visit, we’ll stop for lunch. Depending on the group’s mood, we’ll suggest a few excellent local restaurants — from regional specialties to simple, satisfying fare — and decide on a spot together.

1:00 PMOyama Dam

Prepare to be impressed. Here stand the famous bronze statues of Eren, Mikasa, and Armin, gazing up at the towering wall. Fan or not, the sheer scale of the dam is an awe-inspiring sight.

1:45 PMMameda-machi Historic Town

For our final stop, we’ll head into the heart of Hita City to explore Mameda-machi. Together we’ll stroll its beautifully preserved streets, lined with Edo-period merchant houses, traditional sake breweries, and charming craft shops. We’ll share the area’s history and point out hidden gems, then leave you a little free time to wander on your own.

3:00 PMTour concludes

After a full day of shared exploration, we’ll drive you back to our designated drop-off point in Hita.

Because many of the iconic Attack on Titan sites in Hita are a bit far from each other I was so grateful to find an English-speaking Tour Guide, Kei, who took care of every detail of this tour! From taking us around to Oyama Dam, that Tree on the Hill, TWO dedicated museums, Isayama sensei yakisoba and Levi gelato, and even the local sites to closely watching the weather and being so mindful of all of our needs, these were the most special and memorable days of my life!!! Kei was super friendly and knowledgeable, and even played the Attack on Titan soundtrack in the car. My greatest dream came true finally making my pilgrimage to the hometown of Isayama sensei, the creator of Attack on Titan!!

Everything was perfect and exactly as advertised, with no surprises at all. The guide was especially kind and caring. I highly recommend the tour about Attack on Titan. That’s amazing for fans. I honestly don’t see how I could have visited these places without him. Thank you so much for everything!

We had a great time with Kei! We wanted to see some of the Attack on Titan sights in the area, and having a local guide who can provide transport was invaluable (it can be a LONG walk to certain spots). Kei was super communicative before the trip, and had a good (and flexible) schedule planned out for the day. He helped us with getting the proper trains to/from Hakata to Hita, which was appreciated. We hit all of the major AoT spots and still had time to see a wonderful artisanal pottery village, which was definitely one of the highlights. Lunch was excellent, and he also gave us some great recommendations for the food scene in Fukuoka. If you’re looking for an AoT tour in Hita, or just want someone to show you some different sights in the Japanese countryside, we highly recommend Kei!
